Chief Financial Officer
James Gordon brings a depth of banking, accounting and finance experience to his position as FirstBank’s Chief Financial Officer. As CFO, Gordon oversees FirstBank’s financial, accounting and treasury-related activities.
Prior to joining FirstBank in January 2016, James was partner in charge of the Memphis office of Mississippi-based HORNE LLP, a top accounting and advisory services firm. Previously, he was a partner with the international accounting firms of PricewaterhouseCoopers and BDO.
James also served on the executive management teams of three publicly held regional financial institutions in the Southeast. He was chief risk officer at Union Planters Bank and chief accounting officer at National Commerce Financial Corp., the holding company of National Bank of Commerce, both in Memphis; and chief financial officer for Greenville, South Carolina-based The South Financial Group.
At National Commerce Financial and later at The South Financial Group, James worked with FirstBank president and CEO Chris Holmes, who served as TSFG’s director of corporate financial services and chief retail banking officer prior to joining FirstBank in 2010.
James is a graduate of The University of Mississippi and the Barret Graduate School of Banking and is a certified public accountant in Tennessee. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and Tennessee Society of CPAs.
James was born in Pontotoc, Miss., and grew up in the Oxford, Miss., area. He attended Northwest Mississippi Community College before completing his accounting degree at Ole Miss. James has spent the majority of his professional career in Memphis and also lived in New York, South Carolina and Ridgeland, Miss., along the way.
James and his wife, Joy, a Senatobia, Miss. native, have five children – Alexander and quadruplets Lyndi Grace, Taylor, Hunter and Jackson.< Back to Executive Team
