Gordon Inman

Director Emeritus

Gordon Inman, a veteran banker and businessman, joined FirstBank in 2012 as Chairman of Middle Tennessee and is now Director Emeritus.

Gordon has played an important part in the bank’s recent growth in the Nashville region, spearheading the opening of a new branch location in downtown Franklin at the historic Five Points Post Office building.

Gordon, a Nashville native, demonstrates his passion for the community through civic involvement. He currently serves as the vice-chairman and trustee for Belmont University; his contributions to Belmont helped fund the Gordon E. Inman College of Health Sciences and Nursing building. Gordon recently served on the executive committee of the Boy Scouts of America and the board of the Nashville Symphony and Community Foundation. As a member of Brentwood Baptist Church, Inman funded the first and only chapel in the country designed especially for the deaf.

Gordon came to FirstBank after serving as chairman of the board for Fifth Third Bank Tennessee. He was a founding member and major shareholder of Franklin Financial Corporation, a holding company of Franklin National Bank, which was acquired by Fifth Third in 2004.  Gordon also established the former First National Bank of Knoxville.  He previously served on the Williamson County Bank board of directors and was honored by the Tennessee Bankers Association as a Leader in Banking Excellence in 2008.

In addition to his career in banking, Gordon has played a pivotal role in several businesses and real estate ventures.  He was a partner in Nutri-System throughout an eight-state region and was the largest franchisee of the company. He was a founder of the Maryland Group, a public relations/advertising agency in Brentwood, and formed the Cellular One division in Middle Tennessee. Gordon was one of the original developers of the downtown Nashville hotel and office tower, now the Renaissance Hotel. He also launched Inman Realtors in Williamson County, which he sold in 1996.  He and his partners developed the Brentwood Place Shopping Center and The Williamson Square Shopping Center.  Gordon was also one of 28 founders of the Schermerhorn Symphony Center as well.

The U.S. Army veteran, who served in Korea as a chaplain’s assistant, began working at a very early age. Gordon received an honorary doctorate in humanities from Belmont University in 2003. He and his wife, Shaun, have five children and live in Franklin, Tennessee.
