FirstBank’s Birmingham Office Welcomes New Senior Vice President, Senior Relationship Manager

Seasoned industry veteran Derek Johnson joins community bank’s local team

BIRMINGHAM, AL. (Jan. 30, 2025) – FirstBank today announced that Derek Johnson has joined its Birmingham team as Senior Vice President, Senior Relationship Manager. In his new role, Johnson will spearhead commercial banking efforts across the Birmingham region, with a focus on supporting local businesses, real estate developments, law firms and medical groups.

Johnson brings over 24 years of banking experience, most recently serving as a Senior Vice President for SouthPoint Bank, where he was tasked with starting its private banking group. Born and raised in Central Alabama, Johnson graduated from the University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in finance. He has previously served on the Board of Directors for the Crisis Center, a Central Alabama organization committed to serving the unmet needs of people experiencing personal crisis or mental health issues.

Deeply rooted in the soccer community, Johnson is a longtime supporter of Arsenal Football Club and was a youth coach at various levels with North Jefferson Soccer Club for 15 years. Furthermore, he is a cofounder of the Birmingham chapter of The American Outlaws, an organization dedicated to coordinating passionate and enthusiastic support for men’s, women’s and youth national soccer teams. In his down time, Johnson enjoys spending time with his wife of 23 years and their two daughters, as well as cheering on his favorite soccer teams.
